Top 3 Eye Clinic Chains in India

When it comes to LASIK treatment there are multiple options available. In traditional LASIK, an instrument known as a microkeratome cuts a thin, hinged flap into the eye's cornea. The flap then is lifted for application of laser energy that reshapes the eye for vision correction. Replacing the flap in LASIK promotes faster healing. Another method of creating a LASIK flap uses a type of high-energy femtosecond laser instead of a blade and is also known as “Blade-free LASIK Surgery”.

Unlike mechanical instruments, the blade-free LASIK technology is uniquely able to program the dimensions of your flap based on what's best for your eyes. Instead of a blade, the laser creates your flap from below the surface of the cornea without ever cutting it. This results in more precise and predictable flaps. For starters, ultra-fast pulses of laser light position microscopic bubbles at a precise depth preset by your eye doctor.

The laser light passes harmlessly through your cornea. Then the laser creates rows of these bubbles just beneath your corneal surface as it moves back and forth across your eye in a consistent plane. The next step involves the creation of the edges of your flap. The stacking of bubbles is customized according to the shape of the eye. This process takes only about 20 seconds from start to finish and it is comfortable. The doctor then gently lifts the flap to allow for the second step of your LASIK treatment, the excimer laser. When the treatment is complete, the flap is gently put back into position.
