Eye Disease- Keratoconus

December 09, 2015 4
Keratoconus is a progressive eye disease in which the normally round cornea thins and begins to
bulge into a cone-like shape. This cone shape deflects light as it enters the eye on its way to the light-sensitive retina, causing distorted vision. Keratoconus can occur in one or both eyes and often begins during a person's teens or early 20s. As the cornea becomes more irregular in shape, it causes progressive nearsightedness and irregular astigmatism to develop, creating additional problems with distorted and blurred vision. Glare and light sensitivity also may occur. Studies suggest the weakening of the corneal tissue that leads to keratoconus may be due to an imbalance of enzymes within the cornea. This imbalance makes the cornea more susceptible to oxidative damage from compounds called free radicals, causing it to weaken and bulge forward. It also is associated with overexposure to ultraviolet rays from the sun, excessive eye rubbing, a history of poorly fitted contact lenses and chronic eye irritation.

In the mildest form of keratoconus, eyeglasses or soft contact lenses may help. But as it progresses and the cornea thins and becomes increasingly more irregular in shape, these measures no longer provide adequate vision correction. Keratoconus treatment for moderate and advanced cases include Treatments for moderate and advanced keratoconus include gas permeable contact lenses, hybrid contact lenses, scleral and semi-scleral lenses, corneal cross-linking or transplant, and topography-guided conductive keratoplasty. Centre for Sight is one of the eye hospitals in India that provides services eye surgery, keratoconus and a host of medically advanced techniques in India. At CFS, we care for eye care.

It is a general term that can refer to any healthcare worker involved in eye care, from one with a small amount of post-secondary training to practitioners with a doctoral level of education. Best place to visit for any such eye issue is centre for sight. Here you will find all such facilities and equipments which are required for any successful operation.such one disease is  Keratoconus, it  is a degenerative disorder of the eye in which structural changes within the cornea cause it to thin and change to a more conical shape than the more normal gradual curve.

In KERATOCONUS TREATMENT, rigid contact lenses improve vision by means of tear fluid filling the gap between the irregular corneal surface and the smooth regular inner surface of the lens, thereby creating the effect of a smoother cornea. Many specialized types of contact lenses have been developed for keratoconus, and affected people may seek out both doctors specialized in conditions of the cornea, and contact lens fitters who have experience managing patients with keratoconus. The irregular cone presents a challengeand the fitter will endeavor to produce a lens with the optimal contact, stability and steepness.

Centre for sight also masters in blade free cataract surgery , BLADE FREE CATARACT SURGERY is a huge step forward from normal cataract surgery. Traditionally, cataract surgery wasn’t a type of laser eye surgery. With advancements in technologies and techniques, however, cataract surgery is more effective than ever before.
